Okmulgee County Judges

If you are charged with a crime in Okmulgee County your first court appearance will be for an Initial Arraignment.  Initial Arraignments arraignments are usually set for 2:00 p.m. and are held in Courtroom 2 which is located on the third floor of the court house in the Southeast corner of the building.  Judge Ramirez presides over the Arraignment Docket, preliminary hearing and misdemeanos in Okmulgee County.

If you have been charged with a felony crime your case will be set for a preliminary hearing conference at Initial Arraignment.  Preliminary hearing conferences are set to allow the opportunity for the State (District Attorney) and defense counsel to discuss the case.  At preliminary hearing conference the state and defense can seek to work out a deal or set the matter for preliminary hearing.  Preliminary hearing conferences are set before Judge Ramirez and are generally help at 9:00 a.m.

If your car is set for preliminary hearing it will be heal at 9:00a.m. before Judge Ramirez.  A preliminary hearing is in essence a mini trial.  At preliminary hearing the state must produce evidence (witnesses) to establish probable cause (a more likely than not standard) that a crime has been committed and that the person accused was the one who committed the crime.  If Judge Ramirez determines that the State has met their burden then she will bind the case over for district court arraignment.

District Court Arraignments are generally held at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 1 in front of Judge Adair.  Courtroom 1 is located on the third floor of the courthouse directly at the top of the stairs, it is often referred to as the big courtroom.  District Court Arraignment is the first setting where the accused will meet the Judge who would preside over the jury trial if one was necessary.  District Court Arraignment is the time when the accused decides whether to enter into an agreement with the State to resolve the issue or to set the case for trial.  Judge Adair handles all District Court Arraignments in Okmulgee County.
